I think - as best I can tell - that he did this after the Jay Mohr impression on the Simpsons, which while funny, was a one-shot joke at best. I know why he did this: Back in the 80's, Eddie Murphy hilariously lampooned James Brown's singing "style" in an extended series of bits, James responded in 1985 with a lyric in "Living in America": "Eddie Murphy - eat your heart out!" The point being No one does me better than me. That is showcased here. Walken does Walken amazingly well, of course; some of SNL's best moments are when he's on, there's the Fatboy Slim video, and his deadly serious reading of Poe's "The Raven" is required Halloween listening for me. The man's crazy - he's nuts - but he's no dunsky. Enjoy.
