Michael Musto, Village Voice columnist and inveterate douchebag whose column I have never read until now, but have been unable to completely avoid because of his grandstanding attempts at parody and dubious (and disputed) contribution to the 21st Century American lexicon, has stepped right out of his irony tower and into the traffic of things he does not fathom.
In his latest truncated blathering that passes for a blog post, he questions whether or not bisexuals really exist, instead backhandedly asserting that bisexual men are all gay men who simply won't come out of the closet, those mincey queens. In doing this, he accomplishes three things simultaneously: He reinforces the stereotype that gay men are shallow and trifling people who think everyone else is secretly gay; he espouses an ignorant and stupid opinion that I myself abandoned when I was about 20 or so, so I get to chalk it up to the folly of youth; and he proves that he does not deserve his job as much as say - a gibbering idiot. I compare him to an idiot of the gibbering variety because he seems to have an ape's understanding of human sexuality and relationships - narrow minded gay people are always kind of a shock, but here's one, to remind you what they look and sound like.
Additionally, it appears that bisexual women are in for quite a shock as, based on Musto's little post, they do not exist. Just gay men, frontin'. Also, he would have you believe in a "vast gay-wing conspiracy" in which bisexuality (which, remember, is exclusively male) was invented to build a little closet around queers.
Michael Musto's world must be very, very small.
