Sitting at a stoplight, waiting to turn right into a busy intersection, seeing the older woman (early 70s?) behind me point at the back of my car, and gripe to her passenger, who must be in her 90s. I point back, and no, not with the finger you're thinking. My daughter is in the back seat, and she copies everything I do. The light changes, and we turn right. I end up in the turn lane, preparing to make the left that points me home, while the car full of old ladies pulls up to my right. So I roll down the window after a few sunglassed stares from both parties.
ME: Can I help you?
CRONE: I just can't believe your Obama sticker. Shouldn't you have that off by now? Haven't you lost faith?
ME: You've been waiting on Jesus for like, 2000 plus years now - how's your faith holding up? (cross on the rearview)
CRONE: It's shameful, supporting him when you have children. I mean -
ME: (interrupting) I don't know what that means. I think it's shameful, going around spouting unenlightened crap no one wants to hear from your pinched noise hole when other people are trying to drive. You're obviously of advanced age - how'd you miss out on all the wisdom that's supposed to come with that? Didn't anyone ever tell you that no generation has ever harangued another into coming around to a different point of view?
CRONE: Well. You just have no respect at all.
ME: Respect has to be earned, sister.
HONK!
ME: Light's green, ladies. Move along.
