He makes excellent grades in all subjects, but particularly excels at English and Science. He tests well above proficiency in state mandated measurements of things like that. He can sing and act. He loves his sister, and reads to her often. His favorite superhero is the Hulk, but he also really likes a lot of other ones. Not a lot of kids are into Galactus. He likes to take real things apart, and design new things from thin air, often making up whole role-playing games with his sister that involve dragons, spirits, and indigenous peoples defending themselves. He has started putting a tool box together, and uses his pliers and screwdrivers more than anything else. When he recently had to choose new shoes, he picked high-top black Chucks with flames on them. He is no longer struggling at learning to ride his bike, and is instead making progress at a good rate. His favorite movies are Iron Man, Up, Despicable Me, Monsters Vs. Aliens, and Battle for Terra, but he'll pretty much watch whatever's on. TV is Phineas and Ferb, My Gym Partner's a Monkey, Codename: Kids Next Door, Batman: The Brave and Bold, and Super Hero Squad. His favorite books are the 39 Clues series (10 read this summer), anything by Rick Riordan, the Wimpy Kid books, Calvin and Hobbes, The Far Side, Bone, and lots of my old comics, including Groo the Wanderer and What If? He recently was accepted into his school's chorus, and he likes it so far. His best friend right now is a girl, who's just as smart as he is, and he's a lot less defensive about it than he used to be. He also thinks he's getting insight into girls as a bonus part of this relationship. Pizza should always just have cheese on it, but pepperoni and chicken (but not together) are doable in a pinch. He sleeps with the same pillow and panda that he has since he was three, and falls asleep reading almost every night. His favorite food by far is fresh fruit; apples, peaches, pears - anything he can pick up and walk away with. He makes puns and really bad jokes and loves comedy for the sake of comedy. He's interested in music, medieval life, castles, time travel, painting, bugs, magnets, and weapons. He spends his game time on Poptropica and math games online, and hides in the comfy chair in the guest bath when the house is too loud or he needs escape time. He gets really emotionally invested in people, and disappoints easily, but then is really impressed when things work out.
I love the boy more and more all the time, and am so proud of him today. I dropped him off with his 24 Green Lantern cupcakes at school this morning, and am looking forward to the Bounce U party tonight.
